The 10-40 Window

10/40 Window

The 10/40 Window

The goal of WORD FOR THE WORLD is to reach the masses of people that have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is mission radio at its best. We never ask for money on our broadcasts but are supported by the friends of WORD FOR THE WORLD and churches THAT HAVE PUT US ON THEIR mission BUDGET.

OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO SATURATE THE 10/40 WINDOW WITH THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

This WINDOW is a part of the world that remains unreached. It is a rectangular area that extends from the 10th latitude north of the equator to the 40th latitude north, and from Japan to the West Coast of Africa.

* There are 62 nations within the 10/40 Window.
* 4.1 billion of the world’s 5.6 billion people live here.
* There are more than 1.2 billion people under the influence of communism.
* It contains over 1 billion Muslims, nearly 1 billion Hindus and 600 million Buddhists.
* 97% of the un-reached people groups are located here.
* The top 50 least evangelized cities of the world are all in this window.
* Most of the 10/40 Window nations are closed to western missionaries.
* It is an area of great spiritual darkness known as the “Resistance Belt”.
* It contains over 70% of the world’s people but only 8% of the church’s missionary efforts.
* Less than 1/2 of 1% of the mission budget of churches goes to reach the 10/40 Window.
* Many in the 10/40 Window have never heard the Name of Jesus – even one time!

Patrick Johnstone and Jason Mandryk are the authors of a book titled, Operation World. According to the statistics available in the 2001 edition of the book, and presented on the WorldVue CDROM from Global Mapping International, we learn some interesting facts about who lives in the 10/40 Window.

Poverty: 21 of the 48 poorest countries of the world

  • GNP per person is $500 or less
  • 77% of the poorest people (1.6 billion people)
  • 7% of evangelical missionaries are working with this group

Lost: 31 of the 52 least evangelized countries of the world

  • 95% of the least evangelized people (3.1 billion people)
  • 10% of evangelical missionaries are working with this group

Hopeless: 11 of the 15 least evangelized, poorest countries of the world

  • 98% of the least evangelized, poorest people (1.4 billion people)
  • 4% of evangelical missionaries are working with this group

  2. Dr Earl, God Bless you for you service to Him.
I found your website looking for a map of the 10/40 window. Now I see your work. I am a board member of the Jesus Film Mininstry of CCC.
I have started an outreach to hard to reach people who have moved to Amercia. Millions of Muslims and others have moved here near us. We can reach millions of other wise difficult to reach people now because they live near us. We are producing multi language Jesus Film DVDs for sharing with immigrants as gifts. We are providing them free when and where we can and for a small cost to churches who will join in outreach to immigrants.
My website Christforallpeoples.org explains what and how we are doing it. The website showing our different language groups is, http://www.inspirationalfilms.com/allnationsdvds/ Can I give you a copy of one of our DVDs?

  3. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Somebody gave me your Email and here I am doing the same in a different way like many people. I share my blessing with the needing people in one way or another with LOVE coming from heaven.

Pride to our LORD. Whatever you do for our GOD is because He wants you to do it and I know you do it with the Love coming from HIM.

  4. G’day! Like Phil Cohn, I found your site via a search for a map of the 10:40 window. It’s good to see information on the needs of that area displayed in a clear and accessible fashion.

I admit that I lifted the graphic for use in a PowerPoint presentation last Sunday morning at our church: we have been looking at the needs of that area this year, and yours is the best map I have spotted so far. Our subject on Sunday was the Middle East and North Africa, so the spread of Islam was very much in view.

If using that graphic in that was was unacceptable to you, I apologise. On the other hand, I hope I may have your permission to make the presentation more widely available – perhaps through a link on the church’s website (www.atsilverstreet.com) if I ever get around to updating it!

If you are willing for me to use the graphic, how should the source best be acknowledged?

I’d have approached you less publicly, but can’t spot a “contact us” link on this site.

    In Christ,

    Peter

  6. Hi,

I was a Hindu, but now am a Mis_sionary to Hindus in India and elsewhere.

I am looking for a DVD that summarizes the points you have made above.

We have our mission conference starting in 2 weeks and would be grateful for a DVD that tells about needs in the 1040 window.

    thankx, and God bless.

  9. Thank you for your offer. The only problem I have is cost. We have just enough money to keep the broadcasts going but not to do any translating.

  10. Dear Phil,
I am ashamed to admit it but I just ran across your note to me from my website. It’s been quite a while since you first wrote and there’s really no excuse for the length of time it has taken for me to reply. Please forgive me.
The past couple years have been hard physically for me. I am up in years, have battled with MS, heart disease, and crippling back pain. So, I do what I need to do and not much extra anymore.
I would count it a privilege to receive one of your DVD’s. To know that there are many others reaching people with the Good News of redemption through Jesus Christ is indeed comforting. I pray God’s best for you. Always be open to the direction and discernment of the Holy Spirit.
I just started a new series on my website entitled “The Story of Word For the World: from the beginning”. It’s a short version of how God led in my life over the years. I hope you’ll read it.
    Joyfully in Jesus,
    Earl Bailey
